Sharpening Skills for Success (S3) After School Program
Monday - Thursday, 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Mentoring, devotion, academic instruction and recreation all followed by a "homecooked"
meal.
Mentoring - connecting strong, stable Christian adults with students during BFATL
activities.
Devotion - providing Biblically based character building discussions and activities.
Academic Instruction - a mandatory time, providing a quiet place and supplies for
students to receive instruction in areas of reading, writing and math.
Recreation - team building activities as well as physical fitness that encourage students
to live healthy and fit lifestyles.
Home-cooked meal - ensuring proper nutrition to growing bodies. With this meal,
students have three square meals a day available to them (breakfast and lunch at school).
Summer Day Camp
June, July and August
Ten weeks of intense interaction and discipleship through devotion, character building,
field trips, swimming and overnight excursions.
Devotion and character building discussions daily to promote strong social conscience.
Weekly outings to expose students to the arts, nature and other activities that they
otherwise are not subjected to.
Overnight activities to promote close friendships and team cohesiveness.
Summer "Getaway" Camp
Eight Days in July
From the "hoods to the woods" week-long camp to the mountains of Virginia. Teamwork
is stressed during these activities.
Pulaski Church of God staff and members open their homes and facilities for housing,
food and recreation.
Pulaski County Department of Recreation sponsors day camps including sports, team
building exercises, computer lab and lunch.
Randolph Park is a state of the art facility offering swimming, lighted sports complex
and nature trails.
Pulaski, Virginia has a number of natural wonders including Cascade Falls for hiking
and devotion time.

Arts and crafts with concentration on creative thinking. Art sales to introduce
entrepreneurial and business tactics.

Positive, encouraging instruction on basic team dynamics used in both sports and life.
All included, regardless of experience or ability.
Teamwork training to promote socially acceptable behavior in all facets of their lives.
Community Club
Outreach to the community involving neighborhood clean-ups, visitation to the elderly
and feeding of the homeless.
Assisting local schools in clean up and renovation projects.
Feeding of the homeless.
Monthly Home Visits
Regular interaction with parents and guardians in order to meet the families at their point
of need.
One-on-one communication and visitation with parents and guardians to gain
relationship for insight into student's progress.
Assess needs in order to provide for those needs through BFATL resources and the
resources of collaborating ministries and agencies.
