My first introduction to Bright Futures was through a fellow tutor at a local middle school, where I was tutoring fundamental math skills and basic reading to 8th graders. After only an hour or two in the chaos of the middle school, I would go home wondering if the kids I was tutoring would make it – if they would finish high school or even middle school. I wondered if there was some place of refuge for these middle school students, some place where there was peace and love and encouragement for the bright future that seemed out of reach. The first time I attended Bright Futures, I knew I had found this place. I was immediately inspired by the sacrifice and dedication I saw in Philip and Gail, and I was amazed at the loving, safe environment they had created for these kids. I saw the kids thriving and excelling. They are creating futures for themselves by building faith, relationships, and knowledge grounded in the love of Jesus. After only two years, I have learned a great deal about love, patience, and servant hood through being involved and affected by the kids, my fellow tutors, and Philip and Gail. Bright Futures is a passion close to my heart, a true inspiration to me, and a great joy to be a part of.
